the i80 Sports MLS Toll Booth- Week 16 MLS Sportsbook Picks

Welcome back to another great week of Major League Soccer picks! Although last week did not go the way we wanted, we are still up over 25 units for the season.

Last week features many draws and a few upset games- I would go as far as to say it was the most unpredictable week yet. This week, however, we return to somewhat normalcy. Below are ALL of last week's picks.

Week 16 MLS Toll Booth Picks

Match- San Jose Earthquakes host Vancouver Whitecaps

Pick- San Jose -145

San Jose Earthquakes ended their winless streak in high fashion- their last three games have them at 2-1-0 picking up 7 points against some tough opponents in Seattle, Portland, and LAFC. What is even more impressive is their stars coming alive- Chofis Lopez has goals in each of his last two games while Cristian Espinoza has two assists and a goal in his last three.

Better news is the addition of Jeremy Ebobissee from Portland who should add a helping hand to match the speed of Caden Cowell at the top of the Quakes attack.

Key to the Game-

As if Vancouver wasn’t outmatched all over the field, they will also be without Lucas Cavallini with a knee. That could leave Brian White atop the Vancouver attack.

San Jose is going to counter attack and kill the Whitecaps with speed down the wings.

Match- Toronto FC host New England Revolution

Pick- New England +130

Toronto sits on the bottom of the East- but I actually believe they are better than that. They have been plagued by injuries, players of duty, and head coaches banishing players (is that you, Jozy?). Vegas seems to agree- New England with +130 is a bargain for a top vs. bottom matchup that it appears on paper.

New England SHOULD otherwise be heavy favorites- they have been ELECTRIC on offense since returning to the two-striker formation with Adam Buksa and Gustavo Bou (were you listening to me, Bruce Arena?).

As a side note, I loved how Tajon Buchanon stepped up last week taking an attacking midfield role in the absence of star Carles Gil.

Key to the Game-

I don’t know HOW the Revolution are going to win, but I have a few scenarios that might play out. The most likely case is a strong Revolution counterattack overload the Toronto defense which won't know how to defend it.

A second likely case is New England getting goals on set pieces and crosses. Adam Buksa can be spectacular in the air and will be marked by centerbacks Omar Gonzalez and Eriq Zavaleta. This is going to create a mismatch the Revs will exploit all night.

Match- Houston Dynamo host Colorado Rapids

Pick- Colorado Rapids +160

Colorado Rapids are a team I am excited for in the second half of the MLS season. They have played well (8-4-4) even while missing players for long stretches of international call-ups. They have also been versatile- tying Sporting KC with a 3-man backline last week after selling Sam Vines.

The Houston Dynamo still have plenty to prove this season- their stretch of 3 straight draws ended with a 2-loss week in week 15. Their last home win was May 21st against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Key to the Game-

I want to see a return of the 3-4-2-1 with Mark-Anthony Kaye and a rejuvenated Kellyn Acosta. While I am not sure this is the week, Rapids will have control of the midfield and should make short work of the Houston Dynamo this week.

Match- Real Salt Lake host Austin FC

Pick- RSL -110

Real Salt Lake is eager for a win to snap a two game losing streak. This week Bobby Wood and Maikel Chang return home as they face off against Austin FC.

Key to the Game-

I’m not really sure I need to add anything else to justify this call. Austin FC is dead last in the league with only 13 goals scored. They head to Real Salt Lake where they like to wear opponents down over the course of 90 minutes.

Fitness and team chemistry will come into question and Real Salt Lake should reign victorious with good -110 odds.
