MLS Bets- Top Picks for 9/2/2023
Thanks for checking back in for another MLS Sportsbook article from Bob Ventimiglia at i80 Sports. We are off a solid two weeks since MLS returned to play after Leagues Cup. Let's take a look at last week's results and where we sand on the season.

Now, let's get into some new picks!
Match- DC United host Chicago Fire
Picks- Chicago Fire +0.5 +100 & Under 2.5 goals +105
Call me spoiled coming off an incredible two week run, but I truly believe that Chicago Fire can beat DC United in DC this week. While both teams are in the midst of a three game losing streak, I find the +340 line out of touch with how dire the situation is for Wayne Rooney’s side.
DC United are a broken team. They have scored once in their last 3 matches and got blown out 3-1 at home by Philly last week. While Chicago is a FAR cry from the Union, I think they can get lucky and throw in a solid performance this week.
Both teams have scored just 1 goal in their last 3 matches, and not much changes this week. I love Chicago even money on the double chance and the total of under 2.5 goals at +105.
You might have to hold your nose during this match, but it isn’t the performance we are after, it's the great sportsbook odds.
Match- Philadelphia Union host RBNY
Pick- Philadelphia Union -111
Sometimes, it is important to know and have a realistic expectation of your own team. While it is easy to see your strengths, it is important to acknowledge and get clarity in your weaknesses, as well. After facing season-long injuries to Lewis Morgan and recent knocks to Dante Vanzeir and Elias Manoel, the Red Bull have no offense right now; they will fall to the Union this weekend in Philly.
Philly is unbeaten in 11 straight matches against RBNY, going 7-4-0 in that span. They are 17-2-1 in their last 20 home matches, and have historically been fantastic at home against Red Bull.
This game feels inevitable to most of the RBNY faithful. Take a ride down the 95 and hand a division opponent an easy 3 points.
Match- LAFC host Inter Miami
Pick- Inter Miami +255 & Lionel Messi Goal -114
Inter Miami face LAFC this week in what should be an extra star-studded affair, as Lionel Messi makes his Los Angeles debut. What is left to be seen is if LAFC can claim a home advantage that few other teams could muster in the age of the secondary ticket market and Leonel Messi.
Since the MLS restart, Miami has actually gotten better on defense- blanking both RBNY and Nashville SC. While this will be their biggest test on that front, their offense could potentially have a good day against LAFC. This is for two main factors- LAFC having 3 defenders unavailable, and their aging backline facing fatigue in a condensed portion of their MLS schedule.
I expect LAFC to be without Jesus Murillo, Diego Polacios, and Diego Rosales this weekend. This leaves them with a backline of Ryan Hollingshead (32), Aaron Long (30), Giorgio Chiellini (39), and Sergi Palencia (27). A similar, if not better, backline gave up a 2-1 loss to Charlotte last week, allowing 15 shots, 5 on target, and 63% possession. Give that opportunity to Inter Miami and you will lose this match.
