Match- Orlando City hosts Colorado Rapids
Pick- Orlando City -119
This weekend we start with my best odds on a home favorite- Orlando City to beat the Colorado Rapids at -119. For me, this is the perfect mix of a good chance and very good odds.
Orlando has actually struggled a touch at home this season, for no good reason, and that changes with a statement win against Colorado this week. Orlando, historically, has won all 3 of its home matches against Colorado, although our most recent sample is from 2019.
Orlando is getting healthy and is unbeaten in 5 competitions. They host the Colorado Rapids who sport a -11 goal differential through 17 matches and don't have a win in their last 7 matches. In that time, they are 0-1-6 which includes a 6 match losing streak.
Key to the Match-
Trying to pin down a specific weakness for Orlando to exploit is actually tricky, so let’s look at the numbers. Colorado do have a heavy 24.2 expected goal against, one of the worst in MLS. That will give Ercan Kara and Facundo Torres some chances to operate, and I think they can land a goal each.
Rapids will be without their usual cast of injured players, but we will add Max to this list on a suspension. He looked good as of late, even scoring a goal against Charlotte two weeks ago. He only played 59 minutes before getting a red card last week against Sporting KC.
Match- Toronto FC host Nashville SC
Pick- Nashville SC Draw No-Bet -115
The red-hot Nashville SC head up to Toronto this weekend to face a Toronto team in turmoil. We discussed the trouble in paradise with Bernardeschi, Insigne, and Bob Bradley in last week’s podcast, which you can catch anytime at youtube.com/i80sports.
Nashville is unbeaten in their last 8 MLS matches with a 6-2-0 record in that span. Their last loss was April 23rd against NYCFC, a notorious place to play football. They will be without Zimmerman, MacNaughton, and DePuy here, so I may not gamble the under, so I am taking the Draw No-Bet for slightly better odds (compared to the double chance) at -115. That covers if Toronto does get an uncharacteristic late goal.
Key to the Match-
Toronto has accumulated only 1.56 points per game at home, as compared to Nashville’s 1.57 points per game on the road. Nashville is just BETTER and has a great week to prove it on the road.
Hany Mukhtar is, of course, the key here. He has 10 goals and 6 assists on the season, and Nashville is 9-1-1 when he contributes. He is the top tier of contributor in MLS, and until teams can find a way to shut him down, Nashville will be able to combine solid team play with elite attacking to win these matches.
Match- CF Montreal host Minnesota United
Pick- Minnesota +0.5 -130
Minnesota is fresh after a full week’s rest, and they head to Montreal where I think they have a good chance to leave with a result. They face a CF Montreal team which will be without Piette and Quioto, and without fresh legs. They played a midweek game against Philadelphia where they lost 3-0.
The thought of Minnesota United getting +235 odds here makes sense when you factor in Montreal’s great home form. Here, I want it all or nothing, so I am taking Minnesota to win or draw (listed as Minnesota +0.5) at -130 odds.
Key to the Match-
There are a few weaknesses Montreal has on the field that Minnesota excels; I think this is a bit of a mismatch.
CF Montreal has allowed 12 shots from free kicks, and is 3rd in MLS allowing 4.94 shots on target per 90 minutes. They foul in dangerous areas and give up a lot of scoring chances. While these may not have been strengths for Minnesota over their first half of the season, they have Reynoso now. Things are different.
Match- Vancouver Whitecaps host FC Cincinnati
Pick- FC Cincinnati, Draw No-Bet +155
FC Cincinnati is the best team in Major League Soccer having one of the best ever seasons in MLS history. They are 12-3-1 through 16 matches, and have an unprecedented 39 total points.
Somehow, in the MLS sportsbook world, that puts them at +250 underdogs to face the 5-6-5 Vancouver Whitecaps. This is truly astounding to me, as it seems Vegas is way off. Do they know something I don’t? Possibly. That’s why I am forgoing the +250 payday for a +155 Draw No-Bet. It is safer, and when trying to extend our amazing streak at i80 Sports, it is necessary to take precaution against late-match weirdness.
This will be MLS after dark, after all.
Key to the Match-
I understand that Vancouver is good at home, but no 2.00 point per game average is going to scare me off of FC Cincinnati until they prove me wrong.
Cincinnati should also be excited- they are adding an exciting new striker from Gabon to replace Brenner, next to Brandon Vazquez, atop the FC Cincinnati attack.
Bonus Match- St. Louis City hosts LA Galaxy
Pick- St. Louis +102
Bonus matches get less words.
St. Louis City is good at home. Very good.
After last month, when nearly every fan in the stadium stayed during an hours-long delay to support their home team, I decided to take them seriously in every home match.
Plus, the LA Galaxy are bad.
