Match- Minnesota United host Houston Dynamo
Pick- Minnesota -145
While Houston Dynamo are 0-1-4 in their last 5 matches, Minnesota United has been sparked by returns to form by striker Luis Amarilla (8 goals 4 assists) and MLS superstar Emanuel Reynoso (10 goals 4 assists). Their 42 goals and 36 conceded put them at +6 on the season and in 4th place in the Western Conference.
Playing at home doesn’t give Minnesota a huge advantage themselves, but it provides another barrier for the Dynamo. Houston is 3-1-9 on the road with a -12 goal differential through 12 games.
Key to the Match-
If defending Minnesota wasn’t a tall enough task for Houston, they will also have work defending set pieces. Houston has allowed 33 shots off of fouls, while allowing 6 goals (some of the highest numbers in MLS). On the flip side, Minnesota has taken 35 shots off of fouls, while scoring 5 of those.
Minnesota has a big advantage here, but -145 is still decent odds for such a home favorite. Don’t overthink it.
Match- Red Bull NY host Inter Miami
Pick- Inter Miami + Draw +115
Being a supporter, I see nothing RBNY has produced on the field to be -160 favorites AND have Miami getting odds at +370. Nothing. I will respect the Red Bull home boost, while it has not been the “Cathedral of Soccer” from years past. The Red Bulls are 3-5-5 at home this season with a +1 goal differential and only 1.08 points this season.
I like taking Miami + Draw on the double chance for +115.
Key to the Match-
The Red Bull defense has fallen to those top tier elite attackers all season long, and Miami has two with Pozuelo and Higuain. If Miami doesn’t come out swinging, plays relaxed, and doesn’t fall into NY’s pressure, they can use their most skilled attackers to find the back of the net.
Match- Chicago Fire host CF Montreal
Pick- Montreal +190
Chicago Fire are coming off of a two game losing streak to the Union and NYCFC, the #1 and #3 teams in the Eastern Conference. This week, they play #2- CF Montreal.
While I have publicly slammed Montreal multiple times, even in these sportsbook articles, I have to be on the side of the former Montreal Impact in this one.
Montreal is 5-2-0 and unbeaten in 7 matches, while outsourcing opponents by a 14-6 margin. Their attacking has found consistency with Romell Quioto (14 goals 4 assists) and Djordje Mihailovic (7 goals 3 assists) while improving their goal differential to +6.
Key to the Match-
Chicago Fire’s 28 goals through 26 games is dead last in MLS, while Montreal’s 47 goals is tied for 5th. Part of the problem is Chicago’s lack of production from top scoring threats. Przybylko has only 5 goals, Mueller and Shaqiri 4 goals, and that is about where Fire’s production stops.
Match- FC Dallas host Real Salt Lake
Pick- FC Dallas -110
This week, the 8-3-3 home team faces off against RSL who are averaging only a point per game on the road. As Dallas moves up the standings to 3rd in the Western Conference, RSL is in 5th place with a 10-8-8 record and -1 goal differential.
This is a close match, but when Dallas is home, we bet on Dallas.
Key to the Match-
FC Dallas is a great counter-attacking team, and Jesus Ferreira has been excellent with 15 goals on 63 shots. His shot-on-target percentage, at 52.4%, is highest of the golden boot contenders. To put it simply- Dallas has a potent counterattack and does not miss their chances.
